Your first quantity plan
Ashibaya helps you plan scaffold materials by zone, compare requirements with stock, and review shortages and estimated costs. This guide is free to read and requires no login.
- Set up a siteIn Site & systems, enter a site name and the relevant conditions. Use verified information for ground, supports and suspension points.
- Add zones and choose systemsIn Zones & takeoff, choose + Add a zone. Calculate opens the system chooser when there are no zones. Use separate zones where systems, dimensions or assumptions differ.
- Review inputs and calculateReplace provisional defaults with the actual dimensions, layout and selected products. Choose Calculate all zones, then review zone status, warnings and calculation bases in Results & export.
The nine scaffold systems
Some systems calculate draft quantities; others use component schedules that you enter. Check example quantities and defaults against the selected products and actual layout.
- Wedge-lock scaffold
- Uses the existing A-type assumption engine. Automatic calculation in the general planner assumes a 400 mm width and 1.8 m lift. Use detailed wedge input for more supported conditions.
- Tube and coupler
- Estimates quantities from straight or grid layouts. Check the actual connections and supports separately.
- Frame scaffold
- Calculates basic components from bays and lifts. Add advance guardrails, ends, stairs and openings for the selected product.
- System scaffold
- Enter a manufacturer's component schedule and quantities per assembly unit.
- Suspended tube scaffold
- Organizes provisional quantities using a platform grid and specified suspension points. Supports and loads require separate review.
- Suspended panel / system scaffold
- Enter the selected product's assembly schedule. Check listed component examples against the product used on site.
- Cantilever / bracket scaffold
- Enter unit assemblies and required counts from an approved layout and schedule.
- Mobile tower
- Enter the selected manufacturer's components per tower and the number of towers.
- Roof, slope, circular and other
- Enter quantities from an individually reviewed layout and component schedule.
Detailed wedge input and combined quantities
Detailed wedge input covers building width, depth and eaves height, clearance, scaffold width, lifts, rows, ends and corners. Check the unit beside each field: m or mm. Set the scope and conditions for supported extras such as advance guardrails, mesh, wall ties and stairs.
- Calculate the takeoff and review section status and calculation bases.
- An obstacle's width is a guide. Enter the number of spans to bridge and confirm the condition before it contributes to quantities.
- Save to this device or save under a new name. Export a project file for a separate backup.
- Choose Add to overall quantities to add the current calculation to the general planner and combine it with other systems.
The transferred result is a snapshot. Adding it again can duplicate quantities. When you change detailed inputs and transfer again, review the old imported zone in the general planner. Additional component formulas on an imported zone need their own length, area or other basis values for the intended scope.
If the detailed result is partial, review the missing sections. CSV, print and PDF output remain restricted until you acknowledge the partial calculation.
When an import reuses an existing material, an explicitly entered detailed-input purchase price fills an unknown purchase price in the general planner. Registered prices, including zero, stock and daily rental rates are kept. Zones using that material share its purchase price.
Read results and revise zones
Zones with input errors are excluded from the total. Do not treat a partial total as the whole site's requirement. Correct excluded zones and outstanding checks, then calculate again. Recalculate after editing dimensions, component schedules or materials.
Record quantity checks, drawing checks and sources so the basis remains understandable. Shared components and connections between zones are not automatically deduplicated. Assign them to a chosen zone and record the basis in notes.
Actions for shortages, missing stock and uncalculated costs filter the matching materials. After editing their conditions, check the latest calculation. Deleting a zone does not delete registered material stock or prices.
Materials, stock and costs
In Materials & stock, enter specifications, unit weights, stock, purchase unit prices and daily rental rates. A blank field means unknown. An entered zero is a known zero.
- Requirement
- Net quantities plus the configured allowance. Counted items round the required quantity up to a whole item.
- Shortage
- The requirement above registered stock. If stock is blank, shortage is unknown. The app does not automatically reserve or deduct stock.
- Purchase / rental estimate
- Shortage × purchase unit price, or shortage × daily rate × days. A known zero cost when stock is sufficient differs from an uncalculated cost caused by missing inputs.
All amounts use Japanese yen (JPY). Switching language does not convert currency. Estimates exclude transport, assembly and dismantling, base fees and tax. Purchase and rental are alternatives to compare, not amounts to add together.
When prices or weights are missing, review both the calculated portion and outstanding items. Stock for counted items uses whole quantities; m, m², m³ and kg allow fractions.
Stock-priority substitution suggestions require an explicitly registered replacement relationship and compatibility conditions. Matching dimensions alone do not establish structural interchangeability.
From drawings to sections and materials
The 1.1 drawing workflow is in detailed wedge input. Open it from the drawing takeoff link in the general planner, or the drawing start button in detailed input. The general planner and detailed input use separate project data.
- Open the plan and elevationsPDF limits are 50 MB and 100 pages. PDFs with readable text provide dimension candidates. For scans, use Read text from this scan to recognize the current page on a supported iPhone. Cancelling recognition or a failed attempt keeps existing candidates and drafts.
- Check the original length and heightCheck the plan's dimension lines and scope, then create face drafts. Calibrate measurements on each page using two points with a known distance. Select a height candidate from all pages and adopt it for the face. An elevation on another page in the same PDF can provide the height. Open that page first to load its candidates.
- Review scaffold conditionsCheck height, lifts, clearance, width, rows, ends and extras. Changing the height clears confirmation, and height-derived lift counts need to be adopted again. Check manually entered lift counts against the revised height and selected specifications too.
- Review and apply changesIn the drawing import, choose the update mode. Reimporting the same draft updates the existing section. Manually edited values, matches to older imports and sections whose drafts were deleted need individual review. A revision imported as a separate PDF is not automatically matched to the original drawing.
- Compare quantities with the drawingCalculate confirmed sections and review materials, partial results and outstanding checks. Section controls reopen the source drawings for the length and height. The material difference preview assumes every displayed change is applied. After reviewing and applying the displayed changes, recalculate using the latest conditions.
The existing PDF confirmation in a general-planner zone still lets you review dimension candidates or calibrated two-point measurements and copy them to the zone. Recalibrate those measurements after changing the page or display zoom.
Keep the original PDFs separately. Project JSON does not contain PDF files. Retain originals even when drawings are saved on the device, in case the app is removed or the project moves to another device. A source link needs its PDF to be available on that device.
Save, back up and move projects
Normal edits in the general planner are automatically saved on this device when storage is available. In detailed wedge input, choose Save to this device or Save under a new name and confirm that saving completed. A saved status does not mean a file was exported to Files or synchronized to another device.
- In Save & transfer, use Save to this device's project list to reopen the project from that list later.
- Use Export project file to create JSON. Check the selected destination for the saved file.
- On the destination device, use the matching screen's import action. Check the site name, zones and materials. The JSON import limit is 5 MB.
General planner JSON contains the current project, not the whole saved-project list. General and detailed wedge files have different formats: import through the corresponding screen. Keep both files when a site uses both workflows.
JSON lets you resume editing. CSV and PDF reports cannot restore an editable project. There is no automatic synchronization between devices. Sharing services and OS backups follow their own settings.
Keep the original drawing PDFs separately from project JSON. Recovering a saved PDF requires the original file with exactly the same contents as when it was registered. A PDF whose contents changed through editing, re-export or page extraction cannot restore the existing drawing, even if its file name is the same.
Offline use, language and units
Entry, calculation, local saving and this bundled guide are designed to run inside the installed app. External sites and network-based sharing destinations require a connection.
Opening the public online guide for the first time needs a connection. Do not rely on a browser cache as your only copy on site; print or save this page as PDF if needed.
The app supports Japanese and English. Switching language does not rewrite existing site names, zone names, user-defined material names, notes or original drawing text. Dimensions keep the units shown beside each field, such as m and mm, and currency remains JPY.
Troubleshooting
- Saving fails
- Export the current project as JSON and verify the file and its contents. Check available device storage. Do not delete or reinstall the app, or reset stored data, before verifying a backup. Keep source or transfer data until saving succeeds.
- Quantities seem low or the total is partial
- Check excluded zones, input errors, missing schedule quantities and basis values on imported zones. Correct and recalculate. Do not read an unknown value as zero.
- A PDF will not open or has no candidates
- Check format, encryption, size and page count. If needed, keep the original and create a separate PDF containing only the required pages. With an image-only drawing, enter verified dimensions manually or measure after calibration.
- Sharing or printing was cancelled
- Try again when ready. If you expected a saved file, open the selected destination to verify it.
- Record a problem
- Note the app version, device and OS, steps taken and displayed message. Remove unnecessary site, drawing and pricing information from any report or screenshot.
- A saved PDF will not reopen
- When Reopen a saved PDF appears, press Choose the same PDF again and select the original file you first registered. If its contents match, the app reopens the PDF while keeping candidates, drafts and project references. You do not need to delete the saved PDF first. Recovery is refused if the contents differ or the original verification information is unavailable. Keep the existing candidates, drafts and projects, check the original file or contact support.
Your data and this guide site
JSON, CSV and PDF exports also create temporary copies in the app cache, which may remain after sharing is cancelled. Copies older than 24 hours are cleaned up when the same export type is next used. Recovery copies may also be retained. This cleanup does not delete files that you saved in Files or a sharing destination.
The app is designed to store project inputs on the device; you initiate backup and sharing. The project list, current project, saved drawings and exported files are separate storage items. Deleting one does not remove every copy elsewhere.
This guide has no login, contact form, advertising or custom analytics. Guide search runs within your browser; it does not send search terms or app project data.
The public site is hosted on Netlify. The hosting provider may process IP addresses and access information to deliver and maintain the site. This is separate from app project data and guide searches.

The version 1.1 iPhone app is available on the App Store. Its temporary free web trial has ended. This guide stays free, and saved trial data can still be retrieved without a purchase.
