ASHIBAYA / GUIDE

Plan quantities.
Check the basis.

From site inputs to material checks and a separate backup.

App version 1.3.0 · Japanese / English guide

Your first quantity plan

Ashibaya helps you plan scaffold materials by zone, compare requirements with stock, and review shortages and estimated costs. This guide is free to read and requires no login.

  1. Set up a siteIn Site & systems, enter a site name and the relevant conditions. Use verified information for ground, supports and suspension points.
  2. Add zones and choose systemsIn Zones & takeoff, choose + Add a zone. Calculate opens the system chooser when there are no zones. Use separate zones where systems, dimensions or assumptions differ.
  3. Review inputs and calculateReplace provisional defaults with the actual dimensions, layout and selected products. Choose Calculate all zones, then review zone status, warnings and calculation bases in Results & export.

The nine scaffold systems

Some systems calculate draft quantities; others use component schedules that you enter. Check example quantities and defaults against the selected products and actual layout.

Wedge-lock scaffold
Uses the existing A-type assumption engine. Automatic calculation in the general planner assumes a 400 mm width and 1.8 m lift. Use detailed wedge input for more supported conditions.
Tube and coupler
Estimates quantities from straight or grid layouts. Check the actual connections and supports separately.
Frame scaffold
Calculates basic components from bays and lifts. Add advance guardrails, ends, stairs and openings for the selected product.
System scaffold
Enter a manufacturer's component schedule and quantities per assembly unit.
Suspended tube scaffold
Organizes provisional quantities using a platform grid and specified suspension points. Supports and loads require separate review.
Suspended panel / system scaffold
Enter the selected product's assembly schedule. Check listed component examples against the product used on site.
Cantilever / bracket scaffold
Enter unit assemblies and required counts from an approved layout and schedule.
Mobile tower
Enter the selected manufacturer's components per tower and the number of towers.
Roof, slope, circular and other
Enter quantities from an individually reviewed layout and component schedule.

Detailed wedge input and combined quantities

Detailed wedge input covers building width, depth and eaves height, clearance, scaffold width, lifts, rows, ends and corners. Check the unit beside each field: m or mm. Set the scope and conditions for supported extras such as advance guardrails, mesh, wall ties and stairs.

  1. Calculate the takeoff and review section status and calculation bases.
  2. An obstacle's width is a guide. Enter the number of spans to bridge and confirm the condition before it contributes to quantities.
  3. Save to this device or save under a new name. Export a project file for a separate backup.
  4. Choose Add to overall quantities to add the current calculation to the general planner and combine it with other systems.

For a project containing automatic drawing proposals, apply the result to the overall plan. Results from the same detailed project update its corresponding zone. Review changed quantities and conditions before applying, and confirm quantities again after an update. Reapplying identical content neither adds a zone nor resets its confirmation. Added components, manual adjustments and registered stock and prices are retained. If several zones match or the material targeted by an adjustment no longer matches, resolve the reported conflict before retrying.

Ordinary manual transfers without automatic proposals retain the existing add-zone behavior. Repeated transfers can duplicate quantities, so review the old imported zone. Additional component formulas on an imported zone need their own length, area or other basis values for the intended scope.

If the detailed result is partial, review the missing sections. CSV, print and PDF output remain restricted until you acknowledge the partial calculation.

When an ordinary manual import reuses an existing material, an explicitly entered detailed-input purchase price fills an unknown purchase price in the general planner. Registered prices, including zero, stock and daily rental rates are kept. Zones using that material share its purchase price.

Read results and revise zones

Zones with input errors are excluded from the total. Do not treat a partial total as the whole site's requirement. Correct excluded zones and outstanding checks, then calculate again. Recalculate after editing dimensions, component schedules or materials.

Record quantity checks, drawing checks and sources so the basis remains understandable. Shared components and connections between zones are not automatically deduplicated. Assign them to a chosen zone and record the basis in notes.

Actions for shortages, missing stock and uncalculated costs filter the matching materials. After editing their conditions, check the latest calculation. Deleting a zone does not delete registered material stock or prices.

Materials, stock and costs

In Materials & stock, enter specifications, unit weights, stock, purchase unit prices and daily rental rates. A blank field means unknown. An entered zero is a known zero.

Requirement
Net quantities plus the configured allowance. Counted items round the required quantity up to a whole item.
Shortage
The requirement above registered stock. If stock is blank, shortage is unknown. The app does not automatically reserve or deduct stock.
Purchase / rental estimate
Shortage × purchase unit price, or shortage × daily rate × days. A known zero cost when stock is sufficient differs from an uncalculated cost caused by missing inputs.

All amounts use Japanese yen (JPY). Switching language does not convert currency. Estimates exclude transport, assembly and dismantling, base fees and tax. Purchase and rental are alternatives to compare, not amounts to add together.

When prices or weights are missing, review both the calculated portion and outstanding items. Stock for counted items uses whole quantities; m, m², m³ and kg allow fractions.

Stock-priority substitution suggestions require an explicitly registered replacement relationship and compatibility conditions. Matching dimensions alone do not establish structural interchangeability.

From drawings to sections and materials

Create material proposals from a drawing

Open the drawing proposal action in wedge detail input, select a PDF, and analyse all pages. The app proposes runs using text, straight strokes and dimensions observed in the drawing. PDF processing stays on the device. Supported iPhones can recognise text in scanned pages on the device; the Web version may not offer the same recognition.

  1. Set shared conditions. Choose the material profile, dimension basis, scaffold type and width, building clearance, wall ties, mesh, toe boards, and span policy. Blank fields remain unresolved. The app cannot determine construction conditions that are absent from the drawing.
  2. Check the intended run. Open its source drawing and check what the dimension covers. If the proposed line is unsuitable, identify the run using two points. An observed dimension line does not establish the building wall or scaffold position.
  3. Link the height. For each run, choose the relevant height from an elevation of the same building. An explicitly linked page height takes precedence over the shared height. Ground-level markers, elevations, multiple values and unresolved notes are not automatically adopted as heights.
  4. Select the runs to adopt. Compare the requested length, chosen span length and difference. Supported span lengths are combined in integer millimetres. A policy requiring at least the requested length can still produce an excess. Runs with unresolved dimensions, geometry, heights or conditions cannot be adopted.
  5. Review quantity changes and save. When applying to an existing project, check changes to its overall quantities and settings. Use the separate drawing-project action if existing runs should not be mixed into the result; the original project is saved and retained. Reapplying the same proposal to the same project updates its corresponding runs. Review conflicts with manual edits or removed runs before applying them.

When a planned run is shorter or longer than requested, review its warning and exact difference. The warning remains with the adopted source reference. A difference exceeding 50% of the requested length holds the run until its unit, requested length or span fitting policy is corrected. This threshold checks inputs; it is not a construction tolerance.

If a total dimension and its components may both be selected, check their scope on the source drawing. A notice across separated dimension bands does not establish overlap and does not guarantee detection of every duplicate. Runs known to need unregistered materials are excluded. Even when other resolved runs can be selected and adopted, unselected and held scope is not included in a whole-project quantity.

Save and resume

Proposal conditions and selected runs are stored separately for each project on this device. Check that saving succeeds before leaving. Reopen the same project and PDF and analyse all pages to rebuild proposals using the saved inputs. Reanalysis does not automatically commit material quantities.

Project JSON does not contain the PDF itself. Keep both the exported project JSON and the original PDF when moving to another device. Without the PDF, its source view and reanalysis are unavailable. Browser and iPhone-app storage are separate.

What the quantities cover

Proposals count confirmed independent runs. Unselected runs and unread drawing scope are not included. Check shared corners, connections, supports, openings and obstacles for the actual site in detailed input. A reference material profile is not a verified manufacturer configuration. This feature does not establish exact quantities for every material across an arbitrary whole project solely from an uploaded drawing.

Using the existing draft workflow

The existing drawing workflow is in detailed wedge input. Open it from the drawing takeoff link in the general planner, or the drawing start button in detailed input. The general planner and detailed input use separate project data.

  1. Open the plan and elevationsPDF limits are 50 MB and 100 pages. PDFs with readable text provide dimension candidates. For scans, use Read text from this scan to recognize the current page on a supported iPhone. Cancelling recognition or a failed attempt keeps existing candidates and drafts.
  2. Check the original length and heightCheck the plan's dimension lines and scope, then create face drafts. Calibrate measurements on each page using two points with a known distance. Select a height candidate from all pages and adopt it for the face. An elevation on another page in the same PDF can provide the height. Open that page first to load its candidates.
  3. Review scaffold conditionsCheck height, lifts, clearance, width, rows, ends and extras. Changing the height clears confirmation, and height-derived lift counts need to be adopted again. Check manually entered lift counts against the revised height and selected specifications too.
  4. Review and apply changesIn the drawing import, choose the update mode. Reimporting the same draft updates the existing section. Manually edited values, matches to older imports and sections whose drafts were deleted need individual review. A revision imported as a separate PDF is not automatically matched to the original drawing.
  5. Compare quantities with the drawingCalculate confirmed sections and review materials, partial results and outstanding checks. Section controls reopen the source drawings for the length and height. The material difference preview assumes every displayed change is applied. After reviewing and applying the displayed changes, recalculate using the latest conditions.

The existing PDF confirmation in a general-planner zone still lets you review dimension candidates or calibrated two-point measurements and copy them to the zone. Recalibrate those measurements after changing the page or display zoom.

Keep the original PDFs separately. Project JSON does not contain PDF files. Retain originals even when drawings are saved on the device, in case the app is removed or the project moves to another device. A source link needs its PDF to be available on that device.

Take off from the building outline (1.3.0)

After analysing all pages, automatic proposals list closed right-angled outline candidates found in the plan line work. Check a candidate on the drawing and choose “Use this outline”; each outline edge becomes a scaffold face. Where no candidate appears (diagonal or curved walls, scans only), choose a rectangle, L or U shape and enter its dimensions. A candidate is never used for quantities until you choose it.

  1. Edge lengths are solved from drawing dimensions as spacings between outline grid lines. A total and its parts are never counted twice; if they disagree the difference is shown in mm and the takeoff stops. An edge without its own dimension is shown as “derived from other dimensions” only when it can be calculated. A value whose drawn proportion differs strongly from the other edges is held as a possible misreading or scale difference.
  2. Choose the faces to scaffold and press “I checked the shown lengths on the drawing”. If the drawing or a dimension changes later, only the affected edges need checking again.
  3. Clearance is added at external corners and subtracted at internal corners. At an open end beside an unscaffolded face, enter the extension, including 0.
  4. If the bay totals do not close around the outline, corner supports cannot be shared as the same position and quantities are held. When a closing layout is offered (which face changes by how many mm), check the drawing and the change in clearance, then press “I checked this layout adjustment; accept it”. If a length or condition changes later, the accepted adjustment becomes invalid and must be checked again. If no layout is offered, review the bay lengths and clearance or use manual per-run entry.
  5. A face whose height exceeds what the chosen lifts cover (lifts × lift height) is held. The app never lowers the height or adds lifts for you.
  6. A corner support is counted once for the two adjoining faces, at the height of the face with more levels. After import, ownership is re-derived from the current sections on every calculation. If a neighbouring face is excluded or deleted, only one side’s end is changed, joined faces have different ground offsets, a section is duplicated, or the link data is damaged, the calculation stops and states the cause (also after saving and reopening). If you edit bay layouts by hand after import, the shape drawn by the current bays is verified every time: when it does not close, when faces that should be apart cross or touch, or when directions are not at right angles, quantities are held. A face held for an unregistered part length shows the missing part, its length and which bay length to untick (no other length is substituted). The screen shows support positions, the count if every face were separate, and the number removed by sharing.
  7. State which side of the plan is north to have heights from labelled elevations proposed for the matching faces. Nothing is proposed when the elevation width does not match the outline or when several height candidates exist. Heights are applied only when you press the button.
  8. In the material change table, open “Basis of this proposal’s quantity” to see the face, page and formula (support positions × rows, bays × levels, and so on).

With an outline, no quantities are shown until every scaffolded face is resolved. Corners follow a reference convention along the inner support line; check extra outer-row material at external corners, internal-corner details and the manufacturer’s configuration on site. If a dimension matched to the outline has conflicting readings or an unknown unit, the edges it spans are held; reject the wrong candidate on the drawing or state the unit. For a revised drawing (another PDF), press “Carry over the outline and conditions from the previous drawing”, then choose “Carry over as the same building” on the candidate with the same shape: the same faces are updated instead of added, and faces no longer included become removals that need your confirmation. Only the scaffolded faces, typed heights, extensions and face names are carried over; length checks, typed lengths, elevation heights and layout adjustments are redone on the new drawing. The ordinary “Use this outline / Use as a new outline” carries nothing over. If faces imported from a different outline remain in the project, you are asked to confirm their removal to avoid double counting. Verification used synthetic drawings; accuracy on real sites has not been measured.

Save, back up and move projects

Normal edits in the general planner are automatically saved on this device when storage is available. In detailed wedge input, choose Save to this device or Save under a new name and confirm that saving completed. A saved status does not mean a file was exported to Files or synchronized to another device.

  1. In Save & transfer, use Save to this device's project list to reopen the project from that list later.
  2. Use Export project file to create JSON. Check the selected destination for the saved file.
  3. On the destination device, use the matching screen's import action. Check the site name, zones and materials. The JSON import limit is 5 MB.

General planner JSON contains the current project, not the whole saved-project list. General and detailed wedge files have different formats: import through the corresponding screen. Keep both files when a site uses both workflows.

JSON lets you resume editing. CSV and PDF reports cannot restore an editable project. There is no automatic synchronization between devices. Sharing services and OS backups follow their own settings.

Keep the original drawing PDFs separately from project JSON. Recovering a saved PDF requires the original file with exactly the same contents as when it was registered. A PDF whose contents changed through editing, re-export or page extraction cannot restore the existing drawing, even if its file name is the same.

Share CSV or PDF, and print

Choose CSV, Save / share PDF, or Print from Results & export. First review calculation status, quantities, specifications and uncalculated items.

The iPhone app is designed to use system sharing and printing. Choose Save to Files or another destination and open the result there. A closed share sheet does not itself prove that a file was saved. Cancelling does not delete the current project.

In a browser, output uses sharing or download according to support.

Exports may contain site names, locations, notes, quantities, stock and prices. Review the content and recipient before sharing.

Daily work report (1.3.0)

Open it from “Daily work report” at the top of detailed input, or from the help area of the overall plan. Record site, date, name, start, end, break and work done; hours worked are calculated in whole minutes. Regular hours per day and how a man-day is counted (one attendance day, or a number of hours) differ by company, so regular hours, overtime and man-days show “—” until you set them. An overnight shift is calculated only when “Ends the next day” is ticked. Records for the same person on the same day are treated as one day even across sites: regular hours are applied to the earliest record first, and that day’s man-days are shared between records by hours worked (the share text and CSV use the same rule). Man-days are shared in steps of 0.01 so that no record is negative and the shares add up to the day. Overlapping times for one person, including an overnight record from the previous day or a record entered on another screen, are not added together; saving stops (records that only touch, such as ending and starting at 06:00, can be saved). Enter regular hours as whole hours 0–24 and whole minutes 0–59, and hours per man-day in steps of 0.5; out-of-range input leaves the previous setting unchanged.

If the report is open on two screens, records from the other screen are kept and saved together. When the same record or the settings were changed on another screen, saving stops, your input is kept, and “Load the latest records” is offered. Loading does not overwrite settings you are typing; the saved settings are shown beside them so you can choose “Save settings” or “Revert to the saved settings”. To report to your company, review the share text or CSV and hand it to mail, LINE or another app yourself. You can edit the share text before sending; edits are not saved and do not change the records. Press “Rebuild share text” to match the records again. The app does not send anything automatically, has no company LINE account integration and stores nothing on a server. The figures are records based on your settings and do not determine pay or statutory working time. Reports are stored on this device only and are not part of the project file (JSON); keep a CSV copy.

Offline use, language and units

Entry, calculation, local saving and this bundled guide are designed to run inside the installed app. External sites and network-based sharing destinations require a connection.

Opening the public online guide for the first time needs a connection. Do not rely on a browser cache as your only copy on site; print or save this page as PDF if needed.

The app supports Japanese and English. Switching language does not rewrite existing site names, zone names, user-defined material names, notes or original drawing text. Dimensions keep the units shown beside each field, such as m and mm, and currency remains JPY.

Troubleshooting

Saving fails
Export the current project as JSON and verify the file and its contents. Check available device storage. Do not delete or reinstall the app, or reset stored data, before verifying a backup. Keep source or transfer data until saving succeeds.
Quantities seem low or the total is partial
Check excluded zones, input errors, missing schedule quantities and basis values on imported zones. Correct and recalculate. Do not read an unknown value as zero.
A PDF will not open or has no candidates
Check format, encryption, size and page count. If needed, keep the original and create a separate PDF containing only the required pages. With an image-only drawing, enter verified dimensions manually or measure after calibration.
Sharing or printing was cancelled
Try again when ready. If you expected a saved file, open the selected destination to verify it.
Record a problem
Note the app version, device and OS, steps taken and displayed message. Remove unnecessary site, drawing and pricing information from any report or screenshot.
A saved PDF will not reopen
When Reopen a saved PDF appears, press Choose the same PDF again and select the original file you first registered. If its contents match, the app reopens the PDF while keeping candidates, drafts and project references. You do not need to delete the saved PDF first. Recovery is refused if the contents differ or the original verification information is unavailable. Keep the existing candidates, drafts and projects, check the original file or contact support.

JSON, CSV and PDF exports also create temporary copies in the app cache, which may remain after sharing is cancelled. Copies older than 24 hours are cleaned up when the same export type is next used. Recovery copies may also be retained. This cleanup does not delete files that you saved in Files or a sharing destination.

The app is designed to store project inputs on the device; you initiate backup and sharing. The project list, current project, saved drawings and exported files are separate storage items. Deleting one does not remove every copy elsewhere.
